What volume actually means

Volume, measured in litres, is a board's float. It comes from length, width and thickness combined, not length alone. That's why two 7'0 boards can paddle completely differently. Too little volume and you'll fight to catch waves; too much and the board turns like a barge. The industry-standard starting point is your body weight in kilograms multiplied by a factor set by ability: roughly 1.0–1.3 litres per kg if you've never stood up, down to 0.35–0.4 for an expert surfing several times a week. This finder runs that maths against our real fleet so the number you get is a board you can actually book today.

Board sizing questions

Quick answers on volume, sizing and how the finder works.

What size surfboard do I need?

The industry-standard method is body weight (kg) × a factor set by your ability, roughly 1.0–1.3 litres per kg for a first-timer down to 0.35–0.4 for an expert. That gives a target volume in litres, the number that actually decides whether you catch waves. Answer the five questions above and we'll do the maths and point you at a specific board and size from our Lagos fleet.

What does surfboard volume mean?

Volume, measured in litres, is how much a board floats. Too little and paddling is a fight and you catch nothing; too much and the board is a barge that won't turn. Length is what people ask about, but volume is what actually determines whether you catch waves. It factors in your weight, ability and how the board is shaped.

Is this board finder accurate?

It's a starting point built on industry-standard weight-to-volume ratios and our own fleet's real sizes, not a guess. It gets you very close, and our team checks the exact fit against your height, the day's conditions and how the board feels when you pick it up at the shop.
